New Road Construction Closes Pleasant Valley Parkway

As part of the Neighborhoods First Program, a portion of Pleasant Valley Parkway will be shut down in order for the city to reconstruct the roadway from Oakland Avenue to Covent Street, according to the City Council Office.

The roadway has been the complaint of motorists for large potholes that multiplied over the last few years and have been responsible for numerous claims against the city.

The project, funded by city and federal funds allocated to Ward 12 and Ward 5, is expected to start today and last about a week. Detours and traffic delays are expected at the busy intersection near Smith Street, especially during the morning and afternoon communities.

“These road improvements are a part of our ongoing efforts to replace our aging infrastructure that has too long been neglected,” Ward 12 City Councilman Terrence M. Hassett said. This will rid of potholes on a strip of roadway widely used by area residents.”

“The allocation of these funds will improve one of our most traveled roadways to become a safe and much improved street,” said Ward 5 City Councilman Michael Solomon.
