The Providence City Council gave unanimous final approval to the FY 2012 Budget. The spending plan reduces expenditures by over $24 million and does not rely on any one-time revenues.

Councilman Terrence M. Hassett, who represents Ward 12 and serves as Council President Pro Tempore, issued a statement today expressing his congratulations to the police union for approving the collective bargaining agreement they negotiated with Mayor Taveras.

Providence City Councilman Terrence M. Hassett commended Governor Lincoln Chafee’s decision to posthumously pardon John Gordon, the last person to be executed in Rhode Island before the state banned capital punishment in 1852.

Beginning August 1, Providence residents and property owners will be required to pay a $20 disposal fee for each mattress or box spring they throw away.
