This Saturday, June 12th, Ward One Councilman Seth Yurdin will host a playground build at George Araujo Children's Park, at the corner of Preston and Ives Streets. Along with Councilman Yurdin, neighbors and volunteers will be joined by Parks Department staff as they help build a new play structure and a swing set.

Yurdin stressed the importance of this neighborhood-wide effort. “This project is about a lot more than just adding some swings and slides,” said Yurdin. “It's about bringing together the whole community around a common goal: making this city a better place for the next generation.”

The councilman also touched on some of the recent research that has shown the benefits of neighborhood playgrounds. “Children who live within walking distance of parks and playgrounds have been found to be far less likely to suffer from obesity, they have fewer behavioral problems, and they perform better in school,” said Yurdin.

The event is open to the public and more volunteers are still needed. If you would like to participate, please contact Sheba at (401) 421-5616. The build will begin at 8:30 a.m.
