Five of Seven Have Served 20 or More Years

City Council Majority Leader Terrence M. Hassett, Senior Deputy Majority Leader Joseph DeLuca, Deputy Majority Leader Leon Tejada, and Council members John J. Igliozzi, John J. Lombardi, Miguel Luna, Nicholas J. Narducci and Balbina A. Young today expressed their support for Internal Auditor James J. Lombardi, and the report he issued last week regarding the City’s financial stability. While the timing and motivation for the report had come under scrutiny by Mayor David N. Cicilline, the Council members said that they are “focused on the financial well-being of the City.”

Providence City Council President Peter S. Mancini, and Council members Luis A. Aponte, Kevin Jackson, Michael A. Solomon, and Clifford J. Wood expressed strong disapproval of the behavior of Internal Auditor James J. Lombardi and said Lombardi is compromising the integrity of the City Council. Council members took the action in response to the recent report released by Lombardi and Lombardi’s “reckless pattern” of using his office for political purposes.
