Biography
Bryan Principe is a newly elected member of the City Council, his term commencing in January 2011. Though new to elective office, he has been actively engaged in the community for years.
Bryan is a leader in the effort to return the West Broadway Elementary School to our community. This effort started in 1997, and won a major commitment from the city (in February 2010) for a multi-million dollar capital investment to pave the way for the reintroduction of the school to the neighborhood. Bryan has participated in community cleanups, tree plantings and neighborhood festivals. He also served on the City Plan Commission for ten years, on the board of the West Broadway Neighborhood Association for six years, and on the Ward 13 Democratic committee for four years.
A lifelong Rhode Islander, Bryan has lived with his wife on the West End since 1997. They live with their two daughters, who both attend public school in Providence. Bryan’s paternal great grandparents settled in a tenement house at 29 Marshall Street (between Broadway and Westminster Street) after coming to America in the early 1900s. They lived there until 1960; his grandparents also lived in an apartment in the house until 1953.
Bryan holds two patents and a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Connecticut. He works in product design and in various consulting capacities, including work with a local illustrator/publisher. He previously worked as a field auditor for a major automotive finance company and has seven years experience in the securities industry, including roles in risk, fraud detection/prevention, high net worth services and high net worth operations.
