Correia Calls for Increased Police Presence in Sixth Ward
In response to an uptick of criminal activity in his ward, Councilman Michael Correia (Ward Six) is calling on the Providence Police Department to increase its presence in the Manton area.
In a letter addressed to Commissioner Steven Pare, Correia references shootings, a car-jacking, and a motorbike fatality. Correia is requesting that “every available officer is immediately assigned to patrol” neighborhoods in the sixth ward.
“These incidents have caused alarm for residents and businesses throughout the area. These are neighborhoods where families live and children play, and the fear of violence is affecting our quality of life,” said Correia. “We need a stronger police presence to send a clear message that violence and crime will not be tolerated in our community.”
Correia expects to meet with Providence public safety officials soon.
